Backgrounds when dry lining by direct bond

The majority of backgrounds can be used for direct bonding except for painted areas. If the background has damp issues, they need to be cured before.

The majority of backgrounds are able to be direct bonded except for painted backgrounds. Backgrounds that have issues with damp should be cured before being bonded. The surface should be smooth and clean, no dust/dirt/oil etc. The wood work should be quality and bricks or concrete should be as close to level as possible. Dabs need to be between 10 mm and 25 mm thick to get a really secure fixing. Before setting out the direct bond, the ceiling should already be boarded. If the background is wet, it must be given time to dry out otherwise the adhesive will slide down the wall because it will not bind. You also need to stop the adhesive from drying too quickly in dry hot conditions.
