Method of forming different joints in plain face slabs

Plain faces have to be jointed to make a flat surface but butted joints should not be used. There are a few other edge designs that can be used such as; square, lapped, rebated, lapped and rebated. Edge designs like rebated, lapped, rebated and lapped have a gap in them so that after fixing, canvas covered in plaster can be laid into the gap. A joint rule and small tool are then used to level out the two slab faces to hide the joint.
