Methods of Running Out Moulds
When running out a simple panel mould, the process is the same as any running out moulding. The only variation would be the sizes.
Any damage in the bench must be repaired by using casting plaster and a joint rule while the bench is slightly wet. The bench will then need three coats of shellac once the casting plaster has set. The running rule, running mould and the bench must then be greased. On the running rule, the length of mould should be marked out with a pencil.
The plaster then needs to be mixed. The amount of plaster required varies depending on the size of the mould. Clean water should be poured into a bowl and then plaster should be added to just below water level then leave it to soak for a few minutes. A barrier cream should be used on your arms and hands to grease them up and then the plaster can be mixed making sure that no lumps are left in the mix.
Once the plaster has been mixed, a small amount of plaster should be poured the length of the run. A bowl should be held at the end of the run to catch any excess plaster that has not been used. The process should be done again until it has built up enough to match the profile but make sure the run is cleaned between each run.
A gauging trowel can be used to help slide the mould off of the bench
