Types of drawings
There are different types of drawings that you may need to look at and work from.
Working drawings are scale drawings that show locations, elevations, details etc of what is going to be constructed. They can be specifically called; location drawings, component range drawings and assembly or detail drawings.
Location drawings show site plans and block plans. Block plans are drawings in birds eye view and show the site and surrounding areas. Site plans show where the building is going to be and the layout of services, footpaths, roads etc.
Component range drawings show the basic sizes of a standard range of components from manufacturers. This makes it easier to find components that are suitable for the task you are doing.
Assembly/detail drawings give you all of the information that you need to put something together and they should show you what it should look like when it is finished.
All of the drawings will have a title panel on the bottom left corner. It should have information such as the title of the drawing, what scale is being used, the name of the person that drew it up, project name, company name and the date of the drawing. All of this information will only be relevant to that specific drawing on the sheet.
